Training Practice

GPs in Training

Our practice is approved to train fully qualified doctors who wish to specialise in general practice. Our GP registrar will have had 2-4 years of experience as a qualified hospital doctor working in various specialities. They consult patients on their own, under the mentorship of our trainer, Dr Okorie. occasionally we ask permission to video a consultation. You will always be asked in advance and are given the option not to take part, and this will not affect your care in any way. No recording will be taken without your consent and the camera will be switched off on request. These videos are used only for educational purposes with the doctor doing the consultation and are destroyed after use.

Dr Lee and Dr Abdul-Khaliq  are currently the GP registrars' at the practice.

Research

Ilford Lane Surgery  continues to be involved in local research as an RCGP research interested practice.

Dr Okorie continues to vet research proposals which arrive at the practice.

Out of principle we do not collaborate with specific named drug company sponsored research requests.

Our aim is to be involved with projects that directly or indirectly help the local population.

Continued Professional Development

Our GPs are constantly keeping up to date with new research and medical developments.

The ICB runs successful Monthly Protected Learning Times, which keep all members of clinical staff up to date with clinical issues and current audits.

We work in a network with other Practices, and attend external educational meetings within the network or promoted by our Primary Care Trust.

Pharmacists

As part of our commitment to supporting the education and development of future healthcare professionals, we occasionally host pharmacy students on placement at the practice.

Pharmacy students may spend up to two weeks with our clinical team to develop their knowledge and skills in medicines optimisation, prescribing and patient care. During their placement, they work under the supervision of experienced healthcare professionals and may observe consultations or be involved in aspects of patient care appropriate to their level of training.

If a pharmacy student is involved in your care or present during your consultation, you will always be informed beforehand and asked for your consent. If you would prefer not to have a student present, please let a member of staff know. Your decision will not affect the care you receive in any way.

We appreciate the support of our patients in helping to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals.
